Website Comments

The new Rother site has been live for a few months, and both the webmaster & webmasters apprentice would like to know your thoughts.

Feel free to use this as a way of saying what you like about the website, anything else you’d like to see (or is missing) on the website, or any general comments (constructive criticism is always appreciated).

The main point of the website is to deliver, the right content, to the right eyes (unless you are boss-eyed, in which case a mirror is available).

I understand that the web can be complicated, with lots of flashing images, pictures, movies and what-not.

That’s not good for you!

I want to make sure it’s easy for you to navigate, use and put your comments on.

So feel free to add your comments to this post (You’ll need to type, then stand up and dance in a circle four times, touch some silver birch and then salute a magpie*) and the webmasters will do their best to accommodate you.

As Radio 4 would say – It’s all about you.

* If you manage to do this, please let rob@skeddy.net know.

    RIVER ARUN AT GREATHAM
    Can you help?
On the opposite bank to the car park there is a large tree with an old Rother angling club sign on it, can I fish this bank ? as the membership booklet would suggest not.

    Bob:
Re Greatham…. The opposite bank to the car park used to be leased by the club many years ago but with a change of owner the fishing rights were withdrawn…. The stretch that is currently under Rother A.C. control are as laid out in your club handbook as you quite rightly assumed. Hope that this clarifies, any further queries please feel free… Regards Pondlife…

    CAN YOU HELP?
I AM TRYING RIVER FISHING THIS SEASON FOR THE FIRST TIME.CAN YOU GIVE ME INFO ON SPECEIS AND TACTICS FOR WOOLBEDING AND GREATHAM BRIDGE PLEASE

I will try my best to help and at least point you in the right direction. Firstly welcome to the running water venues of the club, The first thing I would say is that running waters do not hold the relative numbers of fish as stillwaters and they are definitely not what you would call a captive audience so there is a degree of patience involved as you may already be aware.
Having said that there is some good sport to be had at both of the venues that you mention.

Woolbeding: There are deep holes and glides as well as some shallower, faster areas. If you are looking to target smaller species such as roach and or dace etc then look for a good long run with a decent depth and you can trot maggot under a stick float to your hearts content. Alternatively look in some bends \ under trees and bushes or in the faster water with a straight lead and a big bit of bread for chub. You can wander up and down the whole stretch with a rod, net and loaf but one tip is that if you haven’t had the rod pulled in within ten minutes then move….

Greatham bridge: This is as far removed from Woolbeding as you could probably get. There are large numbers of roach that can be targeted using running line tactics but if float fishing then something around 4 – 8BB and possibly more will be needed dependent on the tide… Alternatively the feeder is always a good bet. Try fishing half to three quarters of the way out with a feeder that just holds bottom, a hooklength of around 3 feet and 2 red maggot or a worm on the hook. Groundbait? best I have to offer is 50-50 mix of plain brown crumb and something like Sensas lake, I havent had a bream refuse it yet… There are some decent bream to be had here and I would say that you would need to walk upstream above the willows where the water is deeper for a crack at a few of these…
I hope that i have been of some assistance ? If you need any more info then feel free to add another post.
Please report back and let us all know how you get on… good or bad as I would be happy to give any further help that I can..
    Tight lines mate… Pondlife.

Mr.Pondlife, i`ve just joined this fantastic club and as i`m no boy scout and useless at reading maps, the stretch of the arun that we can fish at greatham is that heading towards watersfield or back up towards pulborough and at stopham bridge is it the stretch going upstream away from pulborough or back towards pulborough.

    Regards Toby

Hi Toby….looks as if Pondlife is out fishing ,and it may be that you would like an early answer.
Greatham stretch is over the locked gate and up towards Pulborough, plus the few metres adjacent to the car park. The Stopham bit is on the side of the enclosed car park area away from Pulborough. Hope that clears up your difficulty, but feel free to come back if it doesn’t.
    ATB…Brian.

  7. Pondlife says:

Thanks Brian…. Maybe wasn’t fishing but dragging weed out of Rotherfield so that the old folk can drown maggots…
Seriously, Toby… Just for clarification, Brian is absolutely right but then again its easy for me because I know what he means…

    Greatham:
Stand in the road with the bridge in front of you and the car park on your right… The Rother A.C. stretch is to your left over the locked gate & as far “upstream” as the boundary fence on the furthest bend, & “downstream” between the bridge and the fence adjacent to the car park (there is a dark red sign in the ground on top of the flood bank with a phone number on it)

    Stopham:
With Fittleworth behind you and facing Pulborough, our stretch is again to your left. Pull in to the gate way before the bridge on the left and you will see another gate … open this and park in the “small” area enclosed by gorse and brambles, (there is a Rother A.C. sign in the far corner next to the small gate… Our stretch here is from the bridge upstream for further than you would care to walk….
Any more info mate just post another shout here and either Brian, myself or another good member will help you out… Tight lines wherever mate…..

Thanks fella`s, took a trip down to both waters on Sunday (7th September), really liked the look of both as i`m really a pike fisherman, both looked like they could produce but someone told that the decent pike come from Stopham bridge, on arrival at Stopham there was heavy flood water and i couldn`t find a swim near the bridge, any ideas?

  9. Pondlife says:

    Toby mate… Pike???
    there are pike in:
    Rotherfield Pond
    Greatham
    Stopham
    Woolbeding
    North mill
    And the Mill pool….

Go for it and the best of luck my friend… !!

  10. toby says:

I`m new to the area mate where`s north mill and the mill pool?

  11. Pondlife says:

    Toby,
North mill is the stretch of river that runs behind Rotherfield pond, The mill pool is the big swirly thing  at the bottom of this stretch under, or rather next to the road bridge that you drive over on the way from Midhurst town to Rotherfield pond…

    Hope this makes sense matey….
