    Results of the first Veterans Match of 2009,fished on Friday 1st May
    14 Members fished using both sections of the New Pond.
    1st Dave Christmas…..7-9-8 from peg 22
    2nd Tony Wilkinson… 5-10-0 from peg 17
    3rd Mick Rudd………. 5-9-0 from peg 20
    On the Top Pond the weights were not so forthcoming, with only one and a half ounces between the top three.
    Brian = 4-14-0….Den = 4-13-8….Don = 4-13-0
    It was a pleasant day,and no-one fell in. :lol:

    Pondlife to Kev’s rescue once again:- :wink: :wink:

    Assuming that you are now bored with emptying Rotherfield (serious head.. good for you mate.. :-D :-D )

    I have posted some venue bits all over the site but to save you the trawl:
    Greatham bridge:
    Park in the small car park on the right before the bridge, You will see the club signs…. Over the gate on the opposite side of the road and you have from there to the fence at the very top end of the stretch by the oak tree.
    There are large numbers of roach that can be targeted using running line tactics but if float fishing then something around 4 – 8BB and possibly more will be needed dependent on the tide… Alternatively the feeder is always a good bet. Try fishing half to three quarters of the way out with a feeder that just holds bottom, a hooklength of around 3 feet and 2 red maggot or a worm on the hook. Groundbait? best advice I have to offer is 50-50 mix of plain brown crumb and something like Sensas lake, I havent had a bream refuse it yet… There are some decent bream to be had here and I would say that you would need to walk upstream into or above the willows where the water is deeper for a better chance at a few of these… As far as tides go you need to really catch it with about an hour left on the up and then fish it like a maniac on the way down….
    ( I always fish like a maniac anyway so…. )
    Stopham is similar but less affected by tidal ebb & flow so lighter tackle can be used, Car parking is within the “small” enclosed area just off of the road.. (Open the gate and drive in but shut it after as the estate needs access to the field) Plenty of river to go at here but I would advise waders as there are reeds etc to get through to get to the edge of the water in a lot of places (& they will save you from nettles etc when walking across the field… There are ditches to be negotiated but these are bridged with concrete planks somewhere around 20 – 25 yds from the river )
    Again plenty of good fish and usually bigger baits = bigger fish…
    No more clues… can’t be giving away all of my secrets… :wink: :wink: Go and give either a go mate and see what works for you…
    Give it a go mate

    Stop press…… For general interest: There have been a few guys fishing Rotherfield recently and with some good, or rather great results, Fish that have been caught include tench to 4lb, bream (proper uns) over 4lbs and Richard Slyfield had a red letter day on Wednesday when he managed to land a mirror carp of 25lb YES !! 2…5… Now to our knowledge this is the biggest carp that has ever been taken from this water and yes it was weighed and witnessed by 2 independent witnesses, in fact 2 day ticket anglers trying their luck at the same time… Congrats to Richard… fish of a lifetime from a small water such as Rotherfield …. :wink: :-D 8) 8) 8)
