Was the Woolmer Stream event worthy of comment?—–please?
Sorry Brian, Christmas sort of got in the way a bit… Yes and no really…… It didn’t fish that well but then again it may take a water some time to recover from a pollution…

Hi, im looking to do some winter pike fishing, any ideas of some good spots/baits/tactics?
adam, when the ice allows it rotherfield pond is a very good bet, especially as the water will be gin clear ideal for lure fishing.i’ve had them to double figures this season.the mill pool is also very good this time of year.
Thanks Muldoon, without giving away too many secrets, any particular areas of the pond?
peg 22 and peg 9
any idea where we are sunday, theres only a certain amount of domestic duties you can do.
hi everyone, does anyone know if rother ponds going to be open all season again this year ?
Hey Kev…. In answer to your question the answer is YES…
Both Rotherfield Pond and New pond will remain open after the 15th of March Ok there will be the usual work parties and bits going on but these waters will be open none the less….
Thanks thats very helpfull, one more thing is there a limit on what bait can be used or is it anything goes. cheers
just to let you know walked round rother pond on sunday taking a look and it was still fozen in places, it may not be like that now tho.
but i do know the carp were feeding and being landed.
Went to rother pond today, frozen solid, about 1/2 an inch thick same at new pond, spent an hour or so spinning in the mill pond, nothing, never mind could have been worse i could have been at work!surely it must start warming up soon?
That’s the trouble with winter Kev… Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…….
The question is… Did you enjoy it????
are you kidding?,freezing cold, covered in mud and did’nt catch a thing….brilliant!cant wait to get back down there. At least this slightly milder weather might have got rid of all that ice at last
fished new pond today, cant believe the difference slow at times but still landed some good carp and lost a few also, thank god the cold weather has gone.
going to fish new pond this year(could’nt drag myslf away from rother last year)starting in a couple of weeks, any idea what size the carp go upto in there?any clues as to tactics would be much appreciated, also heard there’s a good head of crutians in there too, thought waggler and corn, but if anyone knows better could you let me know?,many thanks
As a long standing member of the club i am dismayed that we have to travel to other waters to catch fish.
Why cant we have enough fish in our own waters to give us good sport?
I have asked several committee members and the response is a politically correct one.
Why cant we just buy some fish and put them in and see what happens instead of no action. I would like to see more bream in cooks pond and new pond needs a new strain of bream plus a good stocking of little carp 1-2lbs to replace the ones that the cormorants were allowed to eat.can a committee member bring this up at the next meeting,
This is not a criticsm just an observation.
Here endeth the sermon.
ps.see you all at cooks sunday for another blank.
Fair comment there from Mulldoon……. Anyone else have any views?
Good Greif get a life ! Do you always go through life expecting everything to fall at your feet and not have to do anything. Rother is not a rich commercial fishery it is a OLD fashion club water, and like it or not they dont seem to like change. If you go and fish in the depths of winter when we have had a very long period of colder than we are used to and dont catch dont blame it on the lack of fish. Blame yourself I am a member and a field tester for a high profile company and know most days in the winter I will not catch. As for the litter name and shame those that leave it behind get them to be so humiliated they will take it home in the future or no longer be a member. As for adding a bin at the lake WHO is going to empty it?
Carpdragon, I’m not out to rattle cages here…
Old Fashioned?? Traditional might be a better turn of phrase?
Don’t like change? Watch this space….
Litter… There will always be litter, not everybody is perfect. If you read the club rules you will see that anyone found to be leaving litter will be expelled….. The problem is catching them and proving that it is/was them that left it in the first place… With Day tickets, how would you expel them ? I have cleared up behind day ticket anglers and not small amounts either.. how do I know that they were day ticket anglers? The tickets were in amongst the rubbish that they left…..
By far the worst problem regarding anglers leaving unwanted things is the yards and yards of line that has to be removed from the mowers that keep the waters tidy……
Mulldoon has done more than his fair share for the club in the past as have many other unsung heroes who to be honest get little or no recognition for their services. If it weren’t for the odd job men the club would have sunk long ago…………………………….
RotherAC is a club. It is not a Commercial Fishery charging £10+ a visit, it is not a syndicate, charging £100+ per annum. The easiest thing is to throw money, buy fish and catch more. No! The fish are there, just difficult to catch at times. If the member finds that hard then perhaps he should stick to commercials. We do not all have the privilege of being able to fish every weekend, but when we go, if we catch, its a bonus. If Muldoon HAS to catch, in multiples, that is sad. Litter………One person……..20mins………3-4 bin liners……….Not rocket science. No need for a work party, just someone who cares.
Ferret boy….
Disagree with the catching in multiples comment…. 1 Roach = saving a dry net……. 1 2 or even 10lbs of roach = what its all about….. If you are happy catching fish singly then that’s fine but it isn’t most peoples cup of tea….
Good job with the bin bags by the way
If you have tackle that is in good condition sitting in the cupboard taking up space and you would like to get rid of it but dont want to bin it or give it away. Why not contact tacklefanatics the have a website http://www.tacklefanatics.co.uk they will arrange collection free to you and pay you for your unwanted kit. It is a professional company recently into fishing tackle.
And yes I have used them.
personally i love the fact that the club is a more ‘traditional’ club and although i have’nt fished all the waters lots of other members have mentioned its hard to catch on some of the waters, maybe it would’nt hurt to stock a few more fish here and there? As for the litter it has built up a bit lately certainly on rotherfield but im pretty sure most of us members take ours and quite often others rubbish with us(sorry i refuse to go near the dog mess, except to repeatedly stand in it,you know who you are, shame on you!)and after a clean up crew has been down in spring all will be pretty clear until this time next year
Kev,
The dog S*** is even worse when the strimmer hits it…..
Seriously anyone that sees a dog walker on our waters please ask them to walk their dog elsewhere as dogs are NOT allowed on club waters……. It’s in the rules guys, same as the litter rules……….
It’s almost time for the “clear up crew” to emerge from hibernation yes, be prepared for loud noises, plenty of sawdust and smoke and a few upset members because their favourite blackberry bush has a twig missing………… Grrrrrrr…. Vrooom vroooom !!!
I totally agree Kev the rubbish is really bad not only at Rotherfield but New pond also all in the bushes, you turn up and think you took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up at the amenity tip.
It would not hurt to have a few bins with bags dotted around on all the ponds i know that i myself and maybe a few others would pop over and empty them every few days in the summer especially and dump them at the tip, which is on the other side of the road from New pond. I think it would only attract more members to the club if it looks like we care about our waters.
i thought that my comments might excite one or two people.dear carpdragon if you think that about me than that is your opinion, people who know me will tell you diferent.
i am a match angler first and foremost.but i do like the odd day in pursuit of the specimen fish that are in our waters,
if you know that you are not going to catch than how can you tell which is a good bait or not.PS the name of the club is the rother angling club one of its many fisheries is rotherfield pond, dug by my own fair hands many many years ago.
In reply to recent comments I do need to catch fish yes and i am not sad, its what you need to do when you fish matches or there is no point in entering.
As regards the litter problem, the club did try the bags and litter bins a few years ago but all that happened was that they were set alight. (Which posed a bigger problem than the litter)
Has mr.grumpy cheered up yet pondlife?
Commercials are a pet hate of mine so i wont be sticking to them,
You need to cater for everybody by having mixed fisheries not just stocking with your own target species.
hi just wondering if there’s any news on the photo page?sorry to be a pain im sure the computer bods have plenty else to do,but it would be nice to see whats being caught
lovely, cheers for that, here’s hopeing everyone now takes advantage and gets some photos in
Ha Ha i have not been on here for a while but as far as i can tell the banter has not stopped.
The thing that really caught my eye though was the fact someone thinks mulldoon likes fishing commercials? It was not that long ago when we were having the exact same debate exept i like fishing commercials and i can assure you all mulldoon does not.
Well done in the supercup but i did hear a rumour that you were fishing against 8 terry turners?
And rumour has it that your team won’t get any further than the first round Reggie………
HA HA HA AH !!
Hi Kev,
There is now a “plain” gallery available here http://rotherac.co.uk/gallery/
If anyone has anything they would like to add to the gallery, they can e-mail it over to skedster@gmail.com and it can be added.
I’ll be adding a fishing look and feel to the page shortly.
Cheers!
Skeddy
Pondlife your probably right but then how far do u think u will go. How long till you come up against a decent team. Im looking forward to our match saturday anyway, i like fishing new venues.
So was the rumour true then? Im not knocking you for getting through but i do wanna know how easy it actually was. Oh and stevie and myself going to rotherfield sunday for a spot of pleasure match fishing. Come see how its done properely ha ha.
many thanks for your support reggy.who would you rather fish against in the first round of the supercup terry turner or william raison[,chance or no chance.]i would be more concerned that arkwright will be in close proximity all day. good luck for saturday,he is organising another match at knepp castle in june ,book a ticket a.s.a.p 40lbs bag of roach on the cards and all proceeds in aid of cancer research.
reggy whats the possibility of us drawing stedham in the next round,oh i am sorry ,i forgot your not there yet. I would take a strong pole because the owner will not let you use an icebreaker,we had to make do with sticks and pole butts.let us know how you get on sunday ,i think we are up the basey (green sheds),or where they used to be.
Two weekends of running water left lads and lasses……
Anyone other than me planning on bagging up on the moving stuff between now and the end???
Where would you suggest Pondlife, also somewhere that someone on crutches could get too.
The pegs on the North Mill stretch behind Rotherfield pond are pretty accessible Lee, There is fairly easy access behind peg 18 ish on the pond or walking anticlockwise from peg 1 up will get you to the river pegs…?
I am planning to take a look at Woolbedding if it warms up a bit more, and possibly Greatham bridge if it warms up a lot more.
Had a bit of a go at Greatham thais afternoon Brian…. (Sat) Only just over the bank from the carpark, short walking…. Roach to be had there…. It was one of those funny old tides though where the river is flowing as if it is going out but it comes up instead …… Multiple river roach are good enough for me……..
any news from reggy.we should have been at the green sheds on the basey but it was frozen solid, the nearest ice free bit was at glen road it was a poor stretch 20yrs ago and it has not improved, one bite one 4lbs pike that doesnt count under rother angling club rules!!!!!
Another fantastic day at the office then mulldoon? Your pike would have loved to get his teeth into the roach I had out of Greatham…. Im’ not gonna steal regginald’s thunder and tell you about his weekend… Over to you my boy…………
is it a written club rule that pike dont count in matches.i find it very hypocritical that those who wont count pike in rother angling club matches will quite willingly weigh them in where they are allowed i.e.all matches that are run under national federation of anglers rules.if one of those objectors caught a pike in an NFA .match lets say a national would they put it back,i think i know the answer dont you!!.any final 3c results yet mr pond life.
Rules are rules muldoon, you must be used to them by now??? It’s no different to bloodworm / no bloodworm, kilo of groundbait ?? barbless hooks / micro barbed … Your tackle shop pellet / fishery’s own pellet… As far as I’m concerned anything with more teeth than me can stay where it is… Call me a softy but…….. No 3cl results as yet… I will enquire as to the whereabouts of the ultimate reckoning…
thanks pondlife ,it was worth a grizzle though:still no news from reggy i wonder why.perhaps he is busy at the masterclass,i do know the result i just wanted to hear it from the man himself.good luck sunday at cooks me and the spudman are off to portland for a weeks twitching on saturday.
