Hi Kev,
There is now a “plain” gallery available here http://rotherac.co.uk/gallery/
If anyone has anything they would like to add to the gallery, they can e-mail it over to skedster@gmail.com and it can be added.
I’ll be adding a fishing look and feel to the page shortly.
Cheers!
Skeddy
Fished Rother with Ferretboy this morning.
Landed a 2lb (guess) Tench first, then a rather pitiful 8 Rudd.
Me with the first catch of the day!
Glad you have enjoyed your time with us Carpdragon but one question…… Surely if you are testing baits as you say, then if they catch fish they must work? Maybe I am being naive in thinking that but thats just my way…..
Sorry I have been a little busy, to answer your question on testing bait. I try out different addatives to give me the edge over the other anglers and see what works and what does not work. It is also better to use different waters as fish behave different in different lakes. My time at Rother was for me to chill and have some fun, I am now trying out a particular blend to use when I go to France in a couple of months if I catch and the catch is in the sponsors publications the bait will also be included. I do not get involved in the decision as to what flavor the bait should be. Nutrabaits is a company that is more concerned with quality food bait that also catches and not this months flavor for sales. G Force took years of testing before it was on sale. You can arrange to have your own receipe blended by them should you wish. I have a full time job and only have a limited amount of time for fishing as most anglers do, apart from the occasional week fishing holiday I spend one whole weekend fishing and the next short session of a few hours. I feel the need to get more and bigger fish on the bank and try my bait out on different places.
You have my email address you are welcome to write to me with any additioanl questions etc. take care
Carpdragon,
All the best with your testing and enjoy your trip to France…
Just a cheeky little add on…… A little insider info for the members… Did you find any flavour that worked especially well with the Rotherfield Pond fish??
Nutrabaits Chocolate orange
have fun
My only question now is……. “How the hell do you hair rig a chocolate orange?????
not sure pondlife but im off to my tackle shop tomorrow!
i work 4 the local council and fish rotherfield pond regularly i went there last sat and what a great morning of fishing with me landing a quite respectable 11 lb common and my mate landed a 15lb common amounst others

had a 19lbs 9 oz mirror out of rother pond the other day, well chuffed as new pb,surely i’ll have a 20 this year, just wondering(other than roger)has anyone else had a 20+ carp out of there?also me and my fishing buddy andy were wondering if anyone had any info or photos about/from rotherponds history, andy has photos somewhere from the 70′s he’s trying to find but it would be really interesting if any of the, ahem, more mature members had any older ones, cheers

hi kev,yes there are photos of the pond in the seventies around, some are in the midhurst and petworth observer archives i have some photos somewhere in a safe place i will dig them out on my return.i have pictures of large perch and pike caught from the pond but being an old person i have no idea how to put them on the website.good luck to the team on may 9th at chi canal, and good luck to all you prizewinners at the AGM whoever you may be.
Kev iv been fishing rotherfield a few years now. iv had three twentys out of there, although one was around 2000/2001.
The other two have come in the last three years one common of twenty two exactly and one twenty pound eight oz. both recent ones have not been caught near either island but close in. Hope that helps.
thanks mulldoon and reggy, tried the margins last week and had a really chunky 13 pounder so will definately be following your advice in future,if andy finds any of his old photos i’ll post them, cheers again.

I know a few years back now there were plenty of tench in new pond. it might be me but does anyone catch these wonderful fish often. i had one out on monday 1lb ish, but it did take me two days of trying to catch one? any suggestions chaps?
You’re not looking in the right places Reggy. Have had many, many sessions on the top pond and caught ONLY Tinca Tinca. Was even accused by Pondlife once of dumping bait in order to catch. Had 5 Tench on the same 11mm Halibut pellet. You’re trying too hard, HT is pushing you into stress mode.Perhaps you should knock off early and go fishing. Oh sorry! You’ve tried that and its not working. Happy to give you a few lessons mate.
Ill pass thanks ferret boy. i will have a go on the top pond though.
as for five tench on the same pellet? us professionals tend to unhook the fish before we recast.
Ha Ha Ha ha ………….
Reggie has found a sense of humour..
Good one mate !!
Hi to you all ,new member alert !!!, had my first session as a member of RAC and enjoyed the afternoon on New Pond .Caught over 100 small roach, rudd, skimmers and a half decent perch ,anything of any size in the pond and if so any tips would be appreciated ,,, tight lines ,,,,,,
hi mike not sure about new pond but i’ve had bream out of rotherfield upto just under 5lbs tench of about the same and carp upto just under 20,my fishing buddy has had some nice perch of about 6/7 oz(although of heard of 3 lbs + in there)and pike upto 10lbs.from what i can gather rother has the bigger fish so take a bit of weight off those for new pond, hope that helps and welcome to rother angling
There are some lumpy carp in New Pond Mike, My best is just over the 12lb mark but there have been some 14 & 16lbers out of there…. The silvers are slightly “stunted” but there are still skimmers to be had of 2lb + and some crucians (brown goldfish) if you are lucky enough to find one…… Muldoon might tell you where and how if he is in the mood for giving away his hard earned secrets…….
Mr worth having a bad day on chi canal.
Is there any other kind of day chi canal?!!!
not to my knowledge
Kev iv looked at fishing Furnace on a couple of occasions, i went to look in the week once and it was still packed. after asking a few questions i found out that very few fish actually get caught. It should be called furnace campsite. i fished rotherfield sat night i had eight carp to 15 1/2lb and all in very good condition i might add.
reggy you have just confirmed what i have always thought .that there is little diference between camping and carping.with proper camping you dont get woken up by an alarm going off signalling a fish has hooked itself.see you sunday for some staying awake fishing.
isnt it just an m and r?
i think you can be camp about carping and carp on about camping, funny old world innit.
well done deano for winning the knepp castle match,as requested we only pegged the deep end(bottom half)because that is where the fish usually come from.the top two weights came from the two end pegs on either side of the lake(halfway up)the rest of us caught virtually nothing,i can only assume that after the first five minutes of the match the fish headed for the safety of the unpegged top half,a lesson well learned for next time.
not bad considering my mate reggie told jeff that i was only there to make the numbers u
p.
if anyones interested and as the river season is about to start i saw a large pike in the mill pond last week and surprisingly a little ghosty in there yesterday!
New Pond.
Loads of fish.
Carp to 16.5 lb also fishing peg 13 found some good quality roach about 3 to the lb.Had Carp at every visit seem to average about 7 lb.
Been smashed up by one or two big Carp. But for me it is fishing well.
New pond.

Loads of fish.
Latest little beauty see photo.
New Pond.
The fish in the posting above was the largest of many.
Also had Carp 10lb,2x8lb,7lb,2x5lb,3lb,Crucian 12oz,1 Roach 10oz,1 Roach 6oz and a few skimmers.Fishing close in near snags.Open water seems to produce a lot less fish.To me is fishing well. The Carp in the picture came from tight up to a tree in bright sunshine on Saturday
afternoon. The fish are there in New Pond if you don,t fish the featureless bath tub middle and fish the features, pads etc.I have posted this because I have heard comments in the past about new pond.To me it is a great pond. Before I get the comment the above all on Saturday Session.Worked out including the picture over 60LB OF FISH.
Hi Im a new member and need some help, I have fished new pond and had loads of skimmers and small roach, not to bad for my first trip, can you recommend some baits to catch other species in there please, and also i fished rotherfield pond on sat 26th, and only had one bite all day, any suggestions please, mind you it was a boiling hot day, which may not of helped, Many thanks Pip
Pip rotherfield pond can be tricky as there is lots of weed cover at the moment. Personally iv always had better luck on the riverbank side of the pond. There are plenty of clear patches on that bank. If maggots arnt working try sweetcorn/bread or luncheon meat. the same applies to new pond meat can be very productive there.
Peter new pond is a good place for a pleasure fishing session, but a very different affair in a match. Its rarely productive in competitions this is why comments have been passed around.
Reggy,
Re: Matches at New Pond……..
Speak for yourself… ha Ha Ha .
i can remember a day last season when reggy was in peg 23 the carp were pulling 3 feet of elastic out of the end of his pole before he realised they were bites,he thought all you had to do was wait for a bleep bleep and reel in .he is slowly learning the art of real fishing,it will take time to wean him off the camping circuit,it may take awhile but i think it may be worth it.we do need to see a strengthened team up the road.
ooooooo!,i think i shall stop tying my own rigs, worrying about presentation, baits, tactics, hooklengths, style of rig, type of hook, pre baiting, hair rig length, hair length, rig material, critically balanced baits, watercraft etc etc etc etc and i’ll just get myself a stick and a bit of string, sorry sorry a pole and elastic then i can just plop it where ever i want no need to be acurate at casting at all!oh to be a REAL angler,ho hum maybe one day!
Ahh, ‘the art of real fishing’.How i long to don my animal skins and commune with the shaman and his mind expanding ways.To be at one with every moving thing. For that beautiful moment of clarity when my spear pierces my watery prey. The joy of the feast, and the women thereafter…Same time next week kev?
most of my last comments have been moderated,so i will keep it brief, what is the point of a comment place on the web site if only certain views are allowed.had a walk round new pond monday.behind peg 32 top pond 2 pairs of socks and 2 used c****ms.rotherfield pond behind peg 17 a pile of human s**t right in the middle of the path.loads of used tissue paper in the river directly behind.one poacher and his expectant girlfriend fishing for SWAN mussels with floating breadcrust, claiming you dont need a permit to fish for them.was quickly moved on.if any of the above offends anybody good because it offended me.both these areas were occupied by overnight campers the previous night.
Muldoon……. Not moderated, I think you will find that all of the “old” posts that aren’t relevant have been taken out such as winter stuff and things that are now history like ferret boy and the tree……… The rubbish that I come across when on the waters beggars belief and take it from me the stuff ain’t nice flying off of the end of a brushcutter at full revs… Big thanks for moving the poacher on, I have done the same three times in the last 2 weeks, Once on Rotherfield, once at Cooks and once on the river at Greatham………..
How do you define campers?Myself and and my friend both members night fished sunday into monday and left no evidence of being there, apart from weed on the bank from our 16 fish haul.
Results of the First Veterans Match of the new season, fished on Friday 2nd July 2010:-
1st…Don Burchall…7-12-8…Peg 12
2nd..Ray Tapner….7-8-0…..Peg 22
3rd..Jan Rudd……..7-2-0…..Peg 27
Eighteen members fished, and the framing weights all contained Tench. Not a lot of Crucian or Skimmers were seen, and the Rudd shut up shop almost as soon as the first few drops of rain arrived. It only lasted a few moments, but it seemed to have quite an effect.
andy,16 fish is a very good session,if only everyone who uses our waters would leave no trace i would not be such a miserable old g*t.my gripe is with the overnighters who show little regard for the fish or the enviroment, night fishing is exactly what you did, well done.campers would find that catching that amount of fish would break up their sleeping patterns and they would have probably reeled in and nodded orf.
Mulldoon i could do with your expertise in pegging new pond for an up and comming tcl match. Rumour has it you have a cunning way that evens out all the sections? if u could help id appreciate it.
swan mussels thats a good one, thats what i was fishing for last match. pondlife will confirm that.
What Reggie wants is to know how you split sections so that nowhere pegs aren’t trying to compete with peg 22 or corners…… As for what you were fishing for? that still remains a mystery Reg….
reggy.assuming there are 7 teams of 4.this is how i would peg it.1st section.1.2.3.4.6.7.8….2nd section.10.13.14.15.16.17.19….3rd section 20.21.22.23.30.31.36.4th section 35.34.33.27.26.25.24…for example if you draw peg 1 you get 10.20.35.draw peg 8 and you get 19.36.24.hope that helps.
p.s.further to the camping saga you would not believe it but i was talking in a local angling shop on the 16th july when somebody actually said they were so fed up with catching little carp 8-14lbs that by 3am they reeled in and went to sleep,it was not on our waters.
why all the bush demolition from peg 1-10 at rotherfield, more light on the water surely means increased weed growth,
Mulldoon thanks for the info but we have 6 teams in our league. Also i was trying to find a way to get pegs 6,21,22,23,31,36 in one section so that if u have a so called carp peg u are not fishing against people in open water etc. let me know what u think.
Ill see ya sunday, hows the numbers going for passies and what time is the draw
Second Veterans Match Results:
Fished at Cooks Pond on Friday 16th July 2010.
1st….Ron Bowley…23lb 1oz…Peg 27
2nd…John Dudman..12lb 3oz..Peg 25
3rd…Dennis Merritt..7lb 0oz…Peg16
The winning peg,in the roadside corner of the pond, was a calm lagoon tucked away out of the howling wind. The remainder of the contestants were treated to a gusty rolling surface that froze the backs of those lacking the wisdom to carry extra clothing, and made bite indication ultra difficult.
The fish obviously prefered the calm corner.
Fishing tackle found on club water – probably left 27th/28th July. Please contact me at the above email address.
John Brandon
Grandaughter showed me how to catch fish today at newpond she caught roach skimmers and her first two carp see pictures.

well done to les’ grandaughter, i am surprised that les knew what type of fish grow that big.
Posted by Muldoon but moved here by Pondlife so that everyone can see it: Muldoon wrote:
Fished north mill on sunday ( 15th) and had another excellent bag of fish between 8-10lbs of non carp.
4 trout,
3 grayling,
3perch
25+ROACH
the rest dace and no minnows.
well done to those responsible for re-vamping north mill, give it a go & you will be surprised.
To all you carp boys, why not try and catch one of those wily old carp that live in north mill, pegs 21-28 were where they used to live, the best i had was 14.5lbs mirror.
I am quite new to the club and caught a 10 pound carp and an eight pound carp at rotherfield but cant work out the best way to fish the pond
Muldoons North Mill Net Fillers: – )
Pondlifes last trip to Greatham Bridge:
And to prove that I’m not as unpopular as people think………..
Tight lines Peoples………….
Wow mulldoon thats a very impressive catch, there are not many people that could catch every single fish in the rother between stedham mill and north mill but somehow u managed it.
Pondlife dont feel left out your catch from greatham was good as well but im sure there were more fish in the river.
Reggie, Firstly it isn’t hard to catch every fish in a stretch of river… You managed it on Sunday…..
Secondly, Quality rather than quantity my friend….. You need to keep your eyes on the prize…..

Ever had any bream out of Greatham???
reggy did you notice the bivvy slippers, pretty cool eh!.
Regarding north mill, unfortunately this water has gained a reputation mainly due to the fact that everyone seems to need instant fishing.
Gone are the days when we used to fish the river every other sunday.
The fish are still there, you just need to find them,
In a one acre carp puddle there is no escape, in a river the fish can be 200 yards away or right under your nose .
An 8oz dace or 1lbs roach from the river are just as good a specimen fish as a 20lbs carp from Rotherfield pond.
Don’t fall in to the trap that carp are the only fish worth fishing for.
Try running a 4bb shouldered stick float down a river a few times fished shirtbutton style of course.
Bye bye, see you sunday.
At the moment the river could be a touch on the coloured side but anyone thinking of giving it a try could do well to take advantage of a “fining down” river in the next few days (weather allowing).. I have to agree with Muldoon that the rivers are a very much underused asset. It is a bit of a vicious circle. It seems that the less the rivers are fished , the worse the fishing seems to be, and then because the fishing isn’t “instant” nobody wants to fish them. And some people wonder why our licence fees are spent on trout streams… Maybe because there are anglers that fish them and therefore it makes sense to invest money and time in these fisheries rather than somewhere that isn’t fished…..

Don’t complain that the agency don’t spend money on our bits of river.. It would only benefit a handful of anglers……
Good old Pondlife playing devils advocate once more…
Anyone else got a view on this ??
Im not against river fishing i love fishing a private stretch at iping all im saying is the rother from iping mill to where it joins the arun is crap (weirpools and fishladder excluded). Pondlife watch this space i shall have bream out of greatham iv had them to five pound out of stopham stretch in the past.
Remember me saying that there might be some fish to be had in the river ?? ………… Pondlife’s offering for this week, 3 hours on Saturday afternoon…..
