Had a lovely day waggler fishing the Thames near Pangbourne today, re-discovered forgotten skills like if if the float slows up thats a bite!, Muldoon you would have loved it, saw 2 Peregrines, together with 4 or 5 Buzzards soaring in and out of a copse on the top of a hill on the far bank. Some Red Kites put in an appearance, tried to educate CB who was pegged next me...hard work, he thought they were giant swallows.Told him they were renowned as scavengers that will eat absolutely anything, then one flew slowly across the river low over his head. Interestingly it showed zero interest in any of his bait on display!!!

Mulldoon first of all congratulations on catching more than me even though thats not difficult at the moment. but i would suggest u sit straight on your peg next time as u couldnt even see where my tiny feeder was landing. u may have heard the splash but u did not see it.

At the moment the river could be a touch on the coloured side but anyone thinking of giving it a try could do well to take advantage of a "fining down" river in the next few days (weather allowing).. I have to agree with Muldoon that the rivers are a very much underused asset. It is a bit of a vicious circle. It seems that the less the rivers are fished , the worse the fishing seems to be, and then because the fishing isn't "instant" nobody wants to fish them. And some people wonder why our licence fees are spent on trout streams... Maybe because there are anglers that fish them and therefore it makes sense to invest money and time in these fisheries rather than somewhere that isn't fished.....
Don't complain that the agency don't spend money on our bits of river.. It would only benefit a handful of anglers......
Good old Pondlife playing devils advocate once more...  8)
Anyone else got a view on this ??

reggy did you notice the bivvy slippers, pretty cool eh!.
Regarding north mill, unfortunately this water has gained a reputation mainly due to the fact that everyone seems to need instant fishing.
Gone are the days when we used to fish the river every other sunday.
The fish are still there, you just need to find them,
In a one acre carp puddle there is no escape, in a river the fish can be 200 yards away or right under your nose .
An 8oz dace or 1lbs roach from the river are just as good a specimen fish as a 20lbs carp from Rotherfield pond.
Don't fall in to the trap that carp are the only fish worth fishing for.
Try running a 4bb shouldered stick float down a river a few times fished shirtbutton style of course.
Bye bye, see you sunday.
