News and Information from The Rother AC Issue 21 – Spring 2009

We are 21…………………………………………………. (Again, for some of us)

There are a few new members who will be receiving this as their first newsletter, and on behalf of the club, welcome… As a rule there are 2 issues of Pondlife per year, one around Christmas and one now to keep you informed of all the important bits as well as the trivia….

The closed season is now upon us & some members are asking about pond open / closed arrangements.
A few things to note:

As a trial the committee has decided to keep both Rotherfield AND New Pond open throughout. New Pond will remain open to club members ONLY and Rotherfield will be available to day ticket anglers as well as members.

These are the only waters open and the river stretches and Cooks pond remain closed until June 16th

Also the club’s website is going from strength to strength with the expertise of the webmaster and his apprentice at the helm, If you are web friendly check out it’s many features and if you have any pictures or info that you might think are of interest then send them in to the webmaster and he will get them online… www.rotherac.co.uk

Bailiffing:
You may have had your membership books checked by club bailiffs during the season, if this is the case then thank you for your co-operation, if not then the bailiffs are sorry that they missed you and will catch up with you as soon as they can. As members of the club you are invited to check that others that you find fishing our waters are actually members or have day tickets. There are the minority who flout the rules and it is these guys that will push your subs up eventually by not paying their way ….

Christmas Draw:
Many thanks to all members who sold Xmas draw tickets, the people that bought them and those who donated prizes. The draw raised in excess of £500 for the club coffers and these people won something:
£100 First prize went to Mrs. Bourner of Bognor with the following receiving various prizes of wines spirits & assorted goodies.

Match Reports:
Once again the veteran’s matches seem to have drawn the oldies out of the woodwork on the sunnier days with the series being well attended as usual.
Mixed bags were the order of the day on most occasions and the eventual winner was John Dudman.

The club again, retains the Lake Trophy and Rother Valley Shield and has seen the 3 Counties League Teams enjoying success with teams winning the Top Team title and the A League and following hot on the heels in the other leagues.

For the less enthusiastic, Bob Stevens is organising a series of 4 Sunday matches for those who are interested, details are on the website and notice boards, but basically:

The new Rother site has been live for a few months, and both the webmaster & webmasters apprentice would like to know your thoughts.

Feel free to use this as a way of saying what you like about the website, anything else you’d like to see (or is missing) on the website, or any general comments (constructive criticism is always appreciated).

The main point of the website is to deliver, the right content, to the right eyes (unless you are boss-eyed, in which case a mirror is available).

I understand that the web can be complicated, with lots of flashing images, pictures, movies and what-not.

That’s not good for you!

I want to make sure it’s easy for you to navigate, use and put your comments on.

So feel free to add your comments to this post (You’ll need to type, then stand up and dance in a circle four times, touch some silver birch and then salute a magpie*) and the webmasters will do their best to accommodate you.

As Radio 4 would say – It’s all about you.

* If you manage to do this, please let rob@skeddy.net know.

Thank you for your enquiry Kevin. The only Pond known to contain Pike is Rotherfield Pond in Midhurst. Never introduced by design, they have swam in during floods. While they can be a minor nuisance, they have been instrumental in “adjusting” the bio-mass and cleaning up. There are times during the day that Fly-Fishing could be practical, but the restriction is down to size and other Anglers. At present it is Club Rules to return ALL fish unharmed.
